Cut Unfair Water Bills
News that South West Water are planning yet another
hike in water bills has provoked fury among local residents who are already
struggling to cope with huge council tax increases.
Under the plans the average unmeasured water
bill for Cornish customers will shoot up to £675 per year by 2009,
the water regulator has confirmed.
South West Water bills have shot to the highest
level in the country becasue local people were saddled with clean-up and
maintenance costs of our extensive beaches.
When water bills were first set following privatisation
it was not recognised that where as 30% of the country's beaches are in
the South West, only 3% of the population live here.
That is why I am trying to persaude Parliament
to change how water bills are charged, to give people in the South West
a fairer deal. In February I called a debate to bring this issue to Minister
Alun Michael's attention. To read the debate click

Although we must fight for fairer bills, there
are steps we can take to reducing our current bills, providing some more
immediate relief. Download our information pack, How Can I Cut My Water
Bill?.
I strongly believe the cost of maintaining Britain's
coastline should be spread fairly across the country. Now you can help
me persuade Parliament of our case by writing to me so that I can pass
on your views.
